DAY 1

George (left) from Jesus Club Gladesville was at our first session way back in 2006 and now still attends.

1 CORINTHIANS 12:14. For the body does not consist of one member but of many.
George is a Jesus Club Member in his mid-60s. He has a very extroverted personality in the sense that he is energised by being around people. George doesn’t have a day job and so for most of the week he finds things to occupy himself. One thing he loves doing is walking the streets of Ryde and visiting the chemist, the post-office and cafes. He is well-known in Ryde and if you are often in that area, you probably know who I’m talking about. George, whether wittingly or not, is a bold and effective evangelist. At one Jesus Club Christmas event, many people came who don’t usually go to church. I asked them how they heard about the event… of course, George had invited them.
There are gifts God has given our Jesus Club Members that other people simply don’t have. Anna will come up to a new person at church and give them a big hug just because she loves people, any people. Cath will pray in front of a non christian visitor that God convinces them to become a Christian. Anne will make joyful gestures with her arms during singing time on Sunday while the rest of the congregation stands drearily still. In our society, we judge people according to how well they fit into a narrow criteria that our society defines. In God’s family, each of us has gifts to contribute and a wide range of gifts are needed. In fact, they’re indispensable.
Prayer Points
  • Pray that our Members will become active members of the churches where they go to Jesus Club. May they be given the opportunity to participate in a wide range of church activities and use their gifts to serve others.
