DAY 4

Members at Jesus Club Jannali are eager to join God's feast.

LUKE 14:12-24. And the master said to the servant, ‘Go out to the highways and hedges and compel people to come in, that my house may be filled.’
The pattern portrayed in this parable reflects what I’ve witnessed over the 12 years of Jesus Club. When I invite my friends to church or any kind of church activity, they are rarely interested. Usually my friends are not strongly against the idea, but just not particularly interested. Other things in life are more important than enquiring into Jesus. In this parable, the reasons for not going to the banquet are similar. The people turn down the invitation not on the basis of a strong stance against the master or his banquet, but because they’re simply too busy with other life pursuits. The master then orders his servant to “bring in the poor and crippled and blind and lame.” And this group of people do come to the feast (or rather, they are brought in), as the servant confirms, ‘Sir, what you commanded has been done.’ It’s easy to get our Members to come to Jesus Club each fortnight. Their simple, routined lives means they’re not too busy for God and that is actually a blessing. In fact, when we asked our Members how we could improve the program, Penny said, “Make the break over Christmas shorter”. People with disabilities are being invited to God’s feast and they are heartily accepting the invitation.
Pray for Jesus Club
  • Pray that churches everywhere will see there is a field ripe for harvest in the form of people with disabilities in their local suburbs. May God set up many more Jesus Clubs so that many more people with disabilities can enjoy His feast.
  • Pray for our new clubs in Croydon (Sydney) and Carlton (Melbourne) starting in 2019.
